How to Get Creative Names for Your Chickens

Since so many of us are in the process of getting chicks, I thought it would be a good time to get your creative juices flowing so you can name your new birds.  Sure, you can choose names from a baby book, but below are some other ways to do it that might be more fun.

By the way, if you have a great name, feel free to leave a comment so everyone can enjoy it.

Favorite TV Cast Names - "Lucy" is certainly a fine name. However, when you name a second hen "Ethel" it's pretty clear that your an I Love Lucy fan.

The TV show you pick is really up to you. I'm listing some old shows everyone knows below as examples.  The best shows are ones with large female casts since most folks have flocks dominated by hens.  However, don't feel too constrained on this point. The Audubon Society isn't going to show up to arrest you if you give a hen a "boys" name. My son named one of our hens "Bruno." Go figure.

  2. It's fun to see these lists! Great idea. I'm still stuck on a name for one chick. I went to an old children's book for one name - Eloise. Sticking with that that theme, there's also Heidi, Pippi, Little Red Riding Hood, Dora, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Corduroy, Marmaduke... :-)
